PSEC’s Mission:

The Pennsylvania Student Equality Coalition (PSEC) is a statewide social justice mobilization of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer (LGBTQ) and allied youth in Pennsylvania. As an organized voice of the Pennsylvania LGBTQ youth movement our affiliation is open to youth-led LGBTQ organizations in Pennsylvania. PSEC provides resources and support to LGBTQ youth in local communities and in educational institutions. PSEC works for social support and coordinated campus‐community organizing for LGBTQ equality in Pennsylvania. As part of a broader social justice movement, PSEC works for Pennsylvania to be a Commonwealth that respects the diversity of human expression and identity which provides opportunity for all. The primary focus of PSEC is on local, state, and national safe schools legislation and policies.

Our Principles

As a movement of young people, we choose to develop ourselves a new vision for how we run our movement. Too often we see the movement becoming a series of non-profit organizations not working well together, distraught over limited resources, or constantly asking for money. As a volunteer based organization, we have no member dues and rely on private donations for our work. Our work as a youth-led organization is defining to our coalition. Advocacy organizations may have youth “programs”, which can lack meaningful engagement or ownership in the organization. As a completely youth-led organization, PSEC believes in full empowerment of ourselves as young people to be leaders of today. We are here for the purpose of advocacy and organizing, as a coalition willing to work with our colleagues and allies from across the Commonwealth.

We stand for inclusivity of all youth in our leadership. We do not accept corporate sponsorship or align or affiliate ourselves with any political party or politician. PSEC is a coalition of LGBTQ youth committed to integrity, honesty, and communication. We believe in coalition building across social justice movements with our allies.
